Game preview: Oilers @ Canadiens
Edmonton Oilers vs. Montréal Canadiens

OILERS (2-6-1) @ CANADIENS (5-3-0)

The Canadiens’ five-game home stand continues as they play host to the Oilers on Tuesday night at the Bell Centre.

Michel Therrien’s squad had its four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday night, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Predators in Montreal. Brendan Gallagher was the lone Hab who managed to beat Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne in the loss. Predators rookie sensation Seth Jones broke a 1-1 stalemate with 87 seconds remaining in regulation time to secure the victory for the visitors. Carey Price turned aside 35 shots in the tilt, falling to 4-3-0 on the season.

Saturday night’s loss was costly in more ways than one for the Canadiens. Daniel Briere suffered a concussion in the defeat, while Brandon Prust suffered a right-shoulder injury and will be sidelined for the next four weeks. Patrick Holland and Michael Blunden, both of whom were called up from the Hamilton Bulldogs in the aftermath of the injuries to Briere and Prust, will likely take part in the game against Edmonton.

The Oilers, meanwhile, close out a six-game road trip on Tuesday night in La Belle Province. Dallas Eakins’ contingent enters the contest against the Habs on a high note after besting the Senators 3-1 over the weekend at Canadian Tire Place in Ottawa. The win over the Sens snapped the Oilers’ five-game winless streak. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored his third and fourth goals on the season for Edmonton, while Jordan Eberle accounted for the other Oilers marker. Goaltender Devan Dubnyk registered his first win of the season by stopping 22 of the 23 shots he faced. He will once against be between the pipes for the Oilers on Tuesday night.

Edmonton will not have Taylor Hall in the lineup against the Canadiens. The 21-year-old suffered a left-knee injury in Saturday’s win over the Senators and subsequently returned to Alberta for further medical examination. Hall is tied alongside Eberle and Mark Arcobello for the team lead in points with eight through nine games thus far this season. Ryan Smyth also returned to Edmonton due to injury. Consequently, the Oilers called up forwards Tyler Pitlick and Ben Eager from the AHL’s Oklahoma City Barons. Eberle, meanwhile, will take part in the tilt against the Canadiens despite missing a pair of practices following the team's arrival in Montreal.

Tuesday night’s tilt will be the second and final regular season meeting between the two clubs during the 2013-14 campaign. On Oct. 10, the Canadiens bested the Oilers 4-1 at Rexall Place in Edmonton to register their first road victory of the season. The Oilers were winners in their last visit to Montreal, earning a 3-1 victory over the bleu-blanc-rouge on Nov. 8, 2011. The Habs have come out on top in 19 of the 35 games between the two teams over the years in Montreal.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST.
