The Canadiens close out their preseason schedule on Thursday night as they wrap up a home-and-home series with the Senators at the Bell Centre.
On Wednesday night, the Habs dropped a 5-2 decision to the Senators at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa. Magnus Nygren and Raphael Diaz tallied for Montreal in a losing effort, while Peter Budaj turned aside 27 of the 32 shots he faced.
Carey Price will get the start in goal for the Canadiens in their final tune-up ahead of the start of the regular season on October 1st. Captain Brian Gionta, meanwhile, will make his much-anticipated return to the lineup after undergoing surgery to repair a torn biceps tendon over the summer. Prospects Nathan Beaulieu and Michael Bournival will both suit up against Ottawa alongside the Habs veterans.
On Thursday morning, the Canadiens assigned forwards Michael Blunden, Martin St-Pierre, Christian Thomas, Nick Tarnasky and Patrick Holland, and defencemen Magnus Nygren, Darren Dietz and Greg Pateryn to the Hamilton Bulldogs.
There are still 27 players at training camp (15 forwards, 10 defensemen, 2 goaltenders), including four players sidelined due to injuries: Alexei Emelin, Douglas Murray, George Parros and Davis Drewiske.
The Senators, who are playing their third game in as many nights, will start Craig Anderson in goal, but will not be fielding a veteran lineup against the Habs. Jason Spezza, Bobby Ryan, Marc Methot, Erik Karlsson, Chris Neil and Chris Phillips are not expected to dress for head coach Paul MacLean’s squad on Thursday night.
Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m. EST.
