Recap: MTL vs. LAK

The Canadian Press | Tuesday, 12.10.2013 / 9:55 PM

MONTREAL - Rookie Martin Jones made 30 saves for his second shutout in as many games, and six Los Angeles players found the back of the net in the Kings' 6-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday.

Jordan Nolan, Anze Kopitar, Alec Martinez, Tyler Toffoli, Jake Muzzin and Justin Williams scored for the Kings (20-7-4), who won their fourth straight.

Carey Price made 12 saves on 16 shots for the Canadiens (19-10-3) before being replaced by Peter Budaj, who stopped 12-of-14 shots.

With the loss, Montreal snapped a 10-game point streak dating back to Nov. 16 when they were beaten 1-0 by the New York Rangers.

The Canadiens came out of the gate with intense pressure, but couldn't find an answer to Jones' stellar play. Jones made seven saves on an early Habs power play, and remained lights out for the rest of the night.

L.A. rewarded Jones' early effort at 7:03 of the first period when Nolan beat Price to his left for his fourth of the year.

Nolan jumped on a big rebound after a Willie Mitchell shot from the blue-line bounced off of Price's pads and landed on Nolan's stick.

Kopitar added to the lead with only 13 seconds remaining in the period, catching Price out of position after winning the faceoff to his right.

The Kings opened the second right where they left off. Martinez scored early in the period after Montreal defender Alexei Emelin lost the puck in his skates in front of the net.

Toffoli put the Kings ahead 4-0 at 5:28, putting a big rebound past a sprawling Price, who was pulled after the goal.

Muzzin added to the lead on the power play at 8:14, and Williams made it 6-0 with his team-leading 11th goal at 18:28.

The Canadiens allowed more than three goals for the first time in 14 games.

Notes: L.A. hadn't beaten the Canadiens in seven encounters dating back to March 2003. The Kings' last win in Montreal was in 1999. … Jones got the start in place of Ben Scrivens, who leads the league in shutouts and save percentage. Jones entered the game with a 0.97 goals-against-average after his first two NHL starts. … Francis Bouillon was back in the lineup after missing six of the last 10 games as a healthy scratch. Bouillon got the nod in place of Douglas Murray. … Montreal visits the Kings in Los Angeles on March 3.
