Five Keys to the Game: Habs-Bruins #6
Strike First : Scoring the first goal has never been more important for the Canadiens or the Bruins than it has this spring. The Habs have won all five games in which they've scored first in the 2014 Playoffs, including both of their second round wins against Boston so far. Having similarly won all six games in which they've opened the scoring this postseason, the Bruins are just as interested in getting on the board early to assure a victory. All three of their wins against the Canadiens have come after scoring first. .
Back to Beantown: The 2014 Canadiens are treading down a path that's been well-worn by their predecessors. For the fifth time in franchise history, the Habs will play a Game 6 against Boston in Montreal while down 3-2 in a series. In the four previous occasions, 1971, 1991, 2004 and 2011, the Canadiens successfully forced a Game 7.
Larry, Guy and Pernell: Scoring his fourth goal of the playoffs in the final minutes of Game 5 before receiving a "free shower" from Shawn Thronton, P.K. Subban continued his stellar postseason performance at TD Garden on Saturday. In franchise history, only Guy Lapointe (1973 and 1975) and Larry Robinson (1979) have outdone the 2013 Norris Trophy winner for goals in a playoff run, picking up six goals apiece in each of those respective postseasons. Subban is currently the series leader with seven points in five games.
Even Steven: While the power play has been clicking of late, the Canadiens know that success in the second round will only come when they start scoring more with 12 players on the ice. It's been 147:27 since the Habs have lit the lamp behind Tuukka Rask at even strength and they'll be looking for more productivity throughout the lineup in 5-on-5 situations in Game 6.
Shot blocking and hitting machine: Alexei Emelin's on-ice rivalry with Milan Lucic has been well-documented, and the Russian rearguard hasn't shied away from throwing his weight around against the Big, Bad Bruins. In five playoff games against Boston, Emelin has dished out 21 hits and thrown himself in front of 18 shots to help the cause.
