Game 5 preview: MTL vs. BOS
Series tied 2-2
On Saturday night, the Canadiens will try to gain a stranglehold on the tied series with a win at TD Garden.
Despite losing out on a chance to put Boston on the brink of elimination, there are reasons for coach Michel Therrien to be optimistic. After depending on the powerplay to generate most of his team’s offense in Games 1 and 2 and being heavily out-chanced at even strength by the Bruins, the Canadiens have stemmed the tide against a deep Boston squad at five-on-five. In the third period of Game Four, Montreal out-shot Boston 14-7.
One detail to keep an eye on this Saturday is who Claude Julien decides to deploy Zdeno Chara against. The perennial Norris Trophy candidate was tasked with shutting down Max Pacioretty during most of the regular season, but took 75% of his shifts against the Michael Bournival-Tomas Plekanec-Thomas Vanek line on Thursday. If this persists, it could free up Max Pacioretty, David Desharnais and Brendan Gallagher to do some damage against Boston’s third defense pairing.
Puck drop will be at 7:00PM E.S.T.
