Game 3 preview: MTL vs. BOS
Series tied 1-1
On Tuesday night, the Canadiens will look to take a series lead against Boston in front of their fans at the Bell Centre.
Once again, P.K. Subban will be front and center for the Canadiens. In the second round, the defenseman leads his team in points (4) and ice time (30:23 per game). Meanwhile, Tomas Plekanec leads all Habs forwards in average ice time (23:03) and is tied with Rene Bourque and Thomas Vanek with two points in as many games against the Bruins.
Both starting goaltenders are currently tied with a 3.50 goals against average in the series. Carey Price holds the edge over Tuukka Rask in save percentage with a 0.918 rating compared to Rask’s 0.885. However, Rask, whose stats have been deflated by the Habs’ powerplay successes, has posted a slightly better save percentage at five-on-five so far.
The story of the game will be whether the Habs can find their rhythm at even strength play while continuing to dominate the special teams. Montreal has gone five-for-five on the penalty kill and scored four times on the man advantage. Meanwhile, Boston has been the aggressor at even strength, outshooting the Canadiens consistently and outscoring Montreal eight to three.
