Eller Taps It Home
26.7 – Average age of the players on the Maple Leafs’ opening night roster, including zero players with birth years in the ‘70s. The Habs, on the other hand, boast an average age of 28.1, with Jarred Tinordi, Alex Galchenyuk, Brendan Gallagher, Michael Bournival and Nathan Beaulieu among the team’s ‘90s babies compared to five grizzled vets of the ’70s, who grew up creating mix tapes and playing Game Boy.

21,273
– Number of official anthem singers in the house for the home opener, with the team electing to give regular crooner Charles Prevost-Linton a rare evening off and instead letting the fans join organist Diane Bibeau in belting out O Canada.

2 – Consecutive number of seasons that have started with Raphael Diaz assisting on the Canadiens’ first goal of the campaign, following up his opening night assist on Brian Gionta’s goal on Jan. 19, 2013 with a perfect feed to Lars Eller to get the Habs on the board on Tuesday night.

2 – Number of times Eller has scored a goal in his first game of a season, potting the first goal of his career in his first-ever NHL game, on Nov. 5, 2009, before opening scoring the opening goal of the 2013-14 campaign on Tuesday night.

18 – Number of times Eller has finished his night with two or more points on the scoresheet, starting his fourth full NHL season off on the right foot with two goals and an assist in the season opener.

2 – Number of Habs currently on pace for 164-plus point seasons, including Eller (actually on pace for a 246-point campaign) and Alex Galchenyuk, who finished their first games of the campaign with three and two points, respectively.
