MONTREAL – There is no substitute for the bleu-blanc-rouge in the NHL. That’s what ESPN’s Uni Watch Power Rankings said when it ranked the Sainte-Flanelle as the best the league had to offer for a second year running.

Topping the rival Bruins, who garnered runner-up honors again in 2013, list curator Paul Lukas noted that the Canadiens affirmed their standing as the league’s best dressed franchise by “[scoring] the Uni Watch hat trick [with] an iconic logo, equally classic home and road designs, and an ideal balance of red, white and blue.” With classic duds of their own, the Red Wings and Rangers claimed the third and fourth spots, respectively. The Flyers rounded out the Top 5.

While the Habs earned overall honors in the Uni Watch Power Rankings last year, besting 121 other franchises across the NHL, NBA, NFL and MLB, they were dethroned by the St. Louis Cardinals in Lukas’ latest poll. The Chicago Bears finished second, while the Canadiens placed third, finishing ahead of both the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Cubs to capture a spot on the sartorial podium.

The Bruins and Red Wings were the only two other NHL franchises to finish in the Top 10 among teams in the four major sport leagues in North America. Boston ranked eighth, while Detroit placed 10th. The Rangers, Flyers and Maple Leafs also scored spots in the Top 25.

Sitting in the Power Rankings’ basement at No. 122, the Jacksonville Jaguars earned the dubious distinction of having the least-coveted jerseys in North American pro sports, while the Colorado Avalanche – at No. 116 – and the Los Angeles Kings – at No. 119 – were lowest on the list among NHL teams.
