The Numbers Game – April 17, 2013
PITTSBURGH - Here's a numerical look at the Canadiens-Penguins matchup on Wednesday night at CONSOL Energy Center.
1 – Number of times since Pittsburgh entered the NHL in 1967 that the Penguins managed to sweep their annual season series against the Canadiens, winning all three meetings with the Habs during the 2012-2013 campaign.
28 – Number of times that both the Penguins and the Canadiens were the first teams to score during games this season. Pittsburgh joined Montreal atop the NHL in this category by scoring the first goal in Wednesday night’s tilt.
9 – Number of goals allowed by the Canadiens in the first period alone over the course of the last three games. The Habs conceded just 16 goals during the first 40 games of the season during the opening frame.
18 – Number of career goals Brian Gionta has tallied against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the most goals the Habs captain has scored against any NHL team.
58 – Number of NHL players who’ve registered at least 1,100 career points after Jarome Iginla became the latest player to hit the impressive mark on Wednesday night against the Canadiens.
3 - Number of times that Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien has used both of his goaltenders over the course of the last three games.
21 – Number of NHL teams against which Brandon Prust has collected at least one assist over the course of his career. The power forward added the Penguins to that list on Wednesday night with an assist on Brian Gionta’s goal during the second period.
5 – Number of goals scored by rookie Alex Galchenyuk in his last seven games, registering two assists during that streak as well.
16:49 – Ice time, in minutes, recorded by Yannick Weber, who played his third game of the season for the Canadiens on Wednesday night in Pittsburgh. That’s 1 minute and 3 seconds less than the total amount of ice time Weber has received since the start of the season.
15 – Number of shifts Gabriel Dumont recorded during his first game with the Canadiens since March 26, which was also at CONSOL Energy Center against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
