The Numbers Game – April 15, 2013
MONTREAL - Here's a numerical look at the Canadiens-Flyers matchup on Monday night at the Bell Centre.
0 – Number of power play goals scored in the two games played by the Flyers and the Canadiens this season heading into Monday night’s tilt. Despite both squads getting seven opportunities each with the man-advantage, neither team has managed to light the lamp – a trend that finally came to an end when Max Pacioretty finally scored a power play marker for the Habs in Monday’s opening period of action.
14 – Number of times this season in which the Canadiens have failed to light the lamp first in 2012-13 out of their 42 games played to date, with the Flyers accomplishing the rare feat of nabbing the opening goal of the night against the Habs on Monday night.
37 – Total number of penalty minutes assessed to Ryan White and Kurtis Foster in the first period of Monday night’s tilt when several rare infractions including “head shot” and “grabbing the visor” were called.
5 – Number of points collected by Max Pacioretty this season against the Flyers – his highest tally versus any team in the NHL in 2012-13, with the Habs forward picking up his 12 goal of the campaign at the end of Monday night’s opening frame.
24 – Number of points picked up by P.K. Subban on the power play this season – a high among all NHL players and two points ahead of Alex Ovechkin, Mike Ribeiro and fellow teammate and blue liner, Andrei Markov.
6 – Length in games of P.K. Subban’s current point streak, bringing his tally to 6 assists and one goal for seven points in his last six outings thanks to a power play helper on Max Pacioretty’s first period marker.
1 – Number of goals scored by Brendan Gallagher on Monday night, with the rookie forward now having scored at least one goal on every day of the week with the exception of Friday.
3 – Number of times this season in which Davis Drewiske has logged points in back-to-back games, with the Habs defenseman scoring the team’s only goal against Toronto and then adding an assist Monday night on Alex Galchenyuk’s goal.
