BROSSARD – On tap for Ryan White this summer: a little golf, a little fishing and a lot of time to heal.

Already making regular appearances in Brossard for a few weeks in the company of Louis Leblanc, Lars Eller, Olivier Archambault, Morgan Ellis and others, White talked about keeping busy during the long summer months.

“I managed to get in a few good trips this offseason. I headed over to Vancouver to attend Karl Alzner’s wedding, which was a really nice day. I also went up to northern Manitoba to do some fishing with a couple of good friends,” explained the 24-year-old forward, who made sure to also pencil in some time north of the 60th parallel to take part in a certain teammate’s golf tournament.

“I made the trip all the way up to Alaska to play in Scotty’s [Scott Gomez] golf tournament,” shared White, who was on hand to witness his friend/tournament host steal the show with an unlikely automobile-winning hole-in-one. “I was playing just behind him on the course and I still didn’t believe it. There was another car up for grabs three or four holes before too, but he sliced his ball right into the trees. So it was pretty shocking when a few hole later he somehow drained a hole-in-one. He was obviously really happy about it. Those kinds of shots don’t happen very often so it was cool to be able to see it.”

And how did White fare when it was his turn to step up to the tee?

“If I remember correctly, I drilled mine right into the woods,” laughed the gritty forward, admitting that the shot came with its fair share of pressure. “I had my father playing with me and he said, ‘Get up there and show me what you can do,’. Let’s just say I already knew it wasn’t the type of day where I was going to be sinking any hole-in-ones. It was still a lot of fun though. Scotty always puts on a great event for a great cause, so I’m glad I was able to be there for it.”

Aside from golf, the nicest tough-guy in the Canadiens’ dressing room has spent his offseason firmly focsued on rehabbing a nagging groin injury.

“I spent a lot of the summer hard at work with my trainer in Manitoba. We wanted to make sure that my groin would be in good shape so I could have a strong start to the season. Since then I’ve come to Montreal and have been training with Pierre. Everything’s been coming along really well,” explained White, whose been regularly hitting the ice with his teammates at the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard.

“It’s not the kind of injury that can heal overnight, but we’re putting in a lot of work to get it rehabbed in time. I’m trying to learn from the experience and grow from it. I don’t think it’ll go back to being exactly the same as before, but I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to get it where it needs to be. Right now, I’m feeling good and I’m almost positive that I’ll be ready to start the regular season,” concluded White, stating that he’ll be doubling his efforts to make sure he’s be in top form for that first puck-drop.
