Team Russia breaks the ice

Team Russia made sure not give up their home-ice advantage without nabbing a win for their fans, as they downed the Canadians 6-3 in the second game of the Canada-Russia Challenge. Forward Kirill Kapustin stepped up as the star of the day, exploding for a hat trick to lead the Russians to victory. Habs prospect Charles Hudon was again kept off the scoresheet. The Canadiens’ fifth-round pick in the 2012 draft saw a lot of ice time on the penalty-kill, helping shut down scoring opportunities for the duration of the match, most notably during a three-minute Team Russia power play in the game’s opening frame.

Both teams will now get the chance to enjoy two days of rest before taking to the ice again Monday night in Halifax for the third game of their four-game series.
