The Canadiens sign Micha\u00EBl Bournival to a three-year contract


PRESS RELEASE

MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier announced Wednesday, the signing of forward Michaël Bournival to a three-year (2012-13 to 2014-15). As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“We are pleased to have reached an agreement with young forward Michaël Bournival. Michaël has shown excellent hockey skills and has improved constantly since making his debut at the junior level. Currently representing Canada at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship, he will greatly benefit from this experience on the international stage,” said Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier.

In 16 games this season with the QMJHL’s Shawinigan Cataractes, Bournival has recorded 24 points (15 goals and 9 assists). Three of his goals were scored on the powerplay and three came on the penalty kill. The 5’11’’ and 187 lbs left winger displays a +4 plus/minus differential and served four penalty minutes.

A native of Shawinigan, Quebec, Bournival, 19, has recorded 172 points (78 goals and 94 assists) in 176 games since his junior debut with Shawinigan. Drafted in the third round, 71st overall by the Colorado Avalanche at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, he was acquired from Colorado in return for Ryan O’Byrne on November 11, 2010.

Bournival took part in his first training camp with the Canadiens in 2011, playing in two preseason games, recording three shots on goal. He was returned to the Cataractes on September 30.
