Canadiens pay tribute to children fighting cancer

MONTREAL – Throughout the month of October the Montreal Canadiens have undertaken several initiatives to emphasize the courage of those fighting cancer as part of the NHL Hockey Fights Cancer Program.

Canadiens/RDS Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night with Leucan

As part of a League-wide initiative, the Montreal Canadiens dedicate a home game to children members of Leucan, an association dedicated to helping cancer-stricken children and their families believe in a brighter future. This special evening will take place on Saturday October 15 when the Colorado Avalanche will visit the Bell Centre to play the Canadiens. For the occasion, the coaching staff, team management as well as RDS broadcasters will be wearing custom woven lavender Hockey Fights Cancer ties featuring a hockey player logo throughout. Several corporations who own private suites at the Bell Centre will be supporting the Montreal Canadiens’ organization in this initiative by hosting 58 young members of Leucan and their parents in their suites for the game. Children and their parents will attend a pre-game reception hosted by the players’ wives and girlfriends and enjoy a post-game meet and greet with a few players along witrh team mascot Youppi! In addition of this initiative, the National Hockey League will make a $5,000 donation to Leucan at a pre-game ceremony in the Director’s Lounge at the Bell Centre. A committed partner of the Canadiens in this initiative since its inception, Le Réseau des sports (RDS) will provide a night to remember to some of the young guests who will enjoy the opportunity to visit the broadcasting studios and the press gallery or call the play-by-play alongside Pierre Houde. Several RDS personalities will also be attending the pre-game reception to meet the children of Leucan and hand out souvenir gifts.

Carey Price supports the cause with pink equipment

In selected games in October, Canadiens goalie Carey Price will be wearing pink colored equipment to support research against breast cancer. His pads, catching glove and blocker as well as his mask will then be auctioned off with all the proceeds going to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Those interested in bidding on those unique pieces of equipment are invited to log on www.auction.legendsdepot.com

Since the inception of the NHL’s Hockey Fights Cancer program, the Montreal Canadiens have teamed up with all NHL member clubs and the NHLPA as active participants in this annual event to promote public awareness and raise funds for organizations involved in cancer care and research in North America.
