Bold Predictions
MONTREAL – It’s that time of year again. The air gets a little bit colder, the days get a little bit shorter and Habs fans everywhere console themselves with the knowledge that while the summer season may be over, the hockey season is about to begin.

With every new hockey season comes a new hockey-pool season, and whether it’s done between friends, office co-workers or family members, every hockey fan worth their salt likes to kick the year off by looking at their team and making a few predictions.

While many folks like to let their instincts guide them when it comes to making their pool-picks for the season, others take advantage of the wealth of magazines aimed at pool-addicts to help them make the most informed decisions possible. On that note, we took a look to see what the expert fortune-tellers of the hockey universe predicted for the Habs 2011-12 season.

Predictions this year really ran the gamut of where the Habs might finish in the Eastern Conference rankings, and saw the Canadiens placing anywhere between 3rd and 11th by the time the playoffs roll around in 2012. Happily, out of the six magazines that were consulted, only one of them had the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge finishing the year on the wrong side of the playoff bubble. It’s also the only prediction about Habs upcoming season that the NHL 2012 Yearbook issued. For the most part, the other publications saw the Habs landing safely somewhere between 6th and 8th seed in the East, meaning the Montreal faithful can likely look forward to a fifth consecutive postseason berth.

Only two of the magazines took a stab at the end-of-season division ranking, with the Hockey News Yearbook placing Jacques Martin’s troops third in the Northeast, while The Sportscaster had them sitting second, behind only the Bruins.

The experts had their say. Now it's your turn. Where do you think the Habs will rank in 2011-12?
