On a roll
Turning in three big wins against the Canucks, Bruins and Hurricanes had the Habs smiling post-game on Saturday night, but it was the way they earned those victories that meant the most. In a decisive 7-2 final against Carolina, there was plenty of praise to go around.
“The turning point in the game was Carey Price,” explained head coach Jacques Martin. “Second was the special teams with three goals on the power play and some good work by our penalty kill. Finally, it was the great effort from our support players. At 2-2, we had some good shifts by our third and fourth lines that picked up the tempo and swung the momentum in our favor.”
The Canadiens carried that momentum to a season-high seven goals for, a feat the team hasn’t accomplished at home since March 24, 2008. With 12 different Habs factoring in on the scoresheet – including six players with multi-point nights, the 21,273 in attendance have the Habs’ impressive power play in part to thank for the free wings they’re about to savor this week.

Collecting victories is nothing new for Price, who is now tied atop the league’s leader board with 10 wins already this season. Despite the lopsided score, the star netminder wasn’t satisfied with the entire 60 minutes he saw against the ‘Canes.
“We weren’t happy with our first period. We were winning by two goals, but they were outplaying us in the first 20 minutes. We knew we had to play better than that,” admitted Price, who earned second-star status for his efforts – including a spectacular save on Chad LaRose midway through the third period.
“That [save] was a whole lot of luck, so you feel pretty lucky more than anything,” shrugged the 23-year-old. “P.K. [Subban] was sitting there smiling at me so we kind of enjoyed it together, I guess. It’s been fun so far. But we have to keep in mind what’s made us successful so we can continue to be successful down the road.”
