On the Rise
Mac Bennett (University of Michigan Wolverines – CCHA)
Having made the jump to university hockey this year, defenseman Mac Bennett seems to have upped his game considerably without missing a beat. Mainly known for his offensive skills, Bennett has racked up three assists in the six games he’s played so far.
In addition to enjoying a strong offensive start to his season, Bennett has continued to maintain a strong defensive consistency as well. With a +17 differential in 2009-10, the young defenseman is proving that while he may have changed leagues, he hasn’t changed his game posting a +5 rating this year after six games.
Louis Leblanc (Montreal Juniors – QMJHL)
Philippe Lefebvre might have had the honor of representing the QMJHL in the first Subway Super-Series pitting the Quebec league’s all-stars against their Russian counterparts, but its Louis Leblanc’s turn to don the jersey this time around. With seven points in his last four games with the Juniors, Louis Leblanc was hand-picked for the Quebec squad.
As exciting as taking part in the Canada-Russian series may have been for Leblanc, the Kirkland native will be anxiously awaiting a different kind of invitation over the next couple of weeks. Having made the list of the 36 players asked to attend Team Canada’s junior team last year, without ultimately being selected for the team, Leblanc has high hopes that this time he’ll be able to go all the way. He’ll have to wait until the end of the month before the letter arrives, representing the first step on the path to playing in the Junior World Championships slated to kick off in Buffalo on boxing day.
