No. 35 is back!
|Alex Auld wore the 35 with the Canucks, the Panthers and the Coyotes.
With the No. 31 he wore in New York, Dallas and Ottawa already stitched on Carey Price’s jersey and the No. 29 he sported in Boston hanging from the Bell Centre rafters in honor of Ken Dryden, Auld decided to go back to his roots to pick his new number. The 29-year-old finally opted to go with his first-ever NHL number, worn from his rookie season in 2001 until 2006 in Vancouver and then again in 2006-07 while playing under Jacques Martin in Florida and finally for nine games with the Phoenix Coyotes.
When Auld hits the Bell Centre ice this season, he’ll do so in his No. 35 jersey. Previous occupants of the number include Mike McPhee in the 1980s and Tomas Plekanec for two years starting in 2005-06, who jumped at the chance to switch to No. 14 with the departure of Radek Bonk.
Auld will become the ninth player – and the third goalie after Andy Moog and Stephane Fiset – in Canadiens history to don No. 35 when the season kicks off on October 7 in Toronto.
