Habs this week – January 18, 2010
Canadiens vs. Blues –Wednesday, January 20 @ 7:30 p.m.
The St. Louis Blues head north on Wednesday for a rare tilt against the Canadiens. In the past three seasons, the two teams have faced each other just once a year, including two in front of the Bell Centre faithful. Both of those home games have gone to a shootout, with the teams splitting the decision in those outings.
The Western Conference’s 13th ranked squad could be ripe for the picking for Jacques Martin’s squad, although the Habs would be wise not to take the Blues lightly. Currently riding a four-game win streak, the boys from the Gateway City aren’t likely to go down without a fight.
Canadiens @ Devils – Friday, January 22 @ 7:00 p.m.
Another night of back-to-back games kicks off on Friday in the swamp as the Habs pay visit to the Eastern Conference-leading Devils. Judging from the tight battles waged by these two clubs already this season, offensive fireworks will not be on display in New Jersey. Stingy goaltending has been the pattern so far with Martin Brodeur and Devils escaping with a pair of 2-1 wins to date.
The last time out, it took overtime to decide a game that saw Brodeur kick aside all but one of the 30 Habs shots he faced. The only player to beat him that night was former teammate Scott Gomez who is riding a hot string that has seen Gomez pile up 16 points over his last 15 games.
Canadiens vs Rangers – Saturday, January 23 @ 7:00 p.m.
Squaring off with the Rangers for the second time in only six days, the Canadiens will be bent on revenge when Marian Gaborik and Co. come to town. After jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead in New York, the Habs gave up six unanswered goals in a tough 6-2 loss. The last time the Rangers came to town this season, the Canadiens edged them 5-4 in overtime.
