MONTREAL - It’s an exciting time to be a hockey fan in Hamilton, with two current Bulldogs selected to represent the club at the AHL All-Star game in a few weeks.

While the NHL will be putting its midseason classic on hold in lieu of the Olympics this year, the best and brightest young prospects will be putting their skills on display in Portland during the AHL’s All-Star weekend in mid-January. Rookie Bulldogs blue-liner P.K. Subban and standout goalie Cedrick Desjardins – December’s AHL Player of the Month – headline the list of players named to the All-Canada team.

Heading into the star-studded affair after exploding through the first half of the season, Desjardins boasts numbers other goalies can only dream of. In 21 starts so far this campaign, the Edmundston, NB native is second in the league with a sparkling .932 save percentage and a stingy 1.66 goals-against average.

Currently suiting up in his fourth season in Hamilton, the veteran netminder has already posted five whitewashes while enjoying a personal best 158.51 minute shutout streak.

The young goalie should be brimming with confidence with his everyday Linus security blanket by his side. In only his first season as a pro, Bulldogs defenseman Subban was voted as an All-Star starter. With his 24 points on the season leading all AHL blue-liners, his trademark smile is wider than ever these days.

While the offensive fireworks fans are expecting at the AHL’s annual talent showcase could very well come courtesy of Subban, his stalwart defensive game could also be on display, topping the league with a plus-20 rating.

The last time the Bulldogs boasted a pair of AHL All-Stars was back in 2007 when current Habs Jaroslav Halak and Andrei Kostitsyn suited up for the USA/World Team.
