Habs this week - Oct. 19, 2009
MONTREAL – This week, the Canadiens will look to kick it into high gear and get on a roll. Despite two strong outings at the Bell Centre last week, Jacques Martin’s squad walked away empty-handed from their tilts against the Avs and the Sens.

There are three new teams on the menu this week, including the Thrashers’ arrival on Tuesday night followed by the Big Apple’s invasion of la Belle Province near the end of the week. The Islanders make the trek to Montreal on Thursday followed by their cross-town rivals, the Rangers, on Saturday night.

Canadiens vs Thrashers – Tuesday October 20 @ 7:30 p.m.

Heading into the Bell Centre averaging four goals a game since the start of the season, Atlanta also carries a stellar 4-1-0 record with them to Montreal. The Habs will look to halt the streaking Thrashers and hand Ilya Kovalchuk and Co. only their second loss of the season.

Evander Kane will also be making his first trip back to Montreal since the Thrashers made him the fourth overall pick in the 2009 draft this June. Kane has a goal and two assists so far in his rookie NHL campaign.

Canadiens vs Islanders – Thursday October 22 @ 7:00 p.m.

Just like Matt Duchene last week and Evander Kane this Tuesday, another 2009 first rounder will make his return to the Bell Centre this week. After potting three goals and adding four helpers in six games so far, John Tavares has exploded out of the gate since his NHL debut on October 3.

Former Hab Mark Streit will be making a third trip back to Montreal since signing with New York prior to 2008-09, looking to help his winless Islanders get their first W of the new year in his old rink.

Canadiens vs Rangers – Saturday October 24 @ 7:00 p.m.

The Rangers’ visit to Montreal caps off a busy week for the Habs on Saturday night. Christopher Higgins will return to the Bell Centre for the first time since being traded to New York on June 30, looking to add to his team’s current seven-game win streak with a victory against his former team.

There will be plenty of familiar faces on both benches, as new Habs Scott Gomez and Paul Mara will also face off against their former teammates for the first time since making the move from NYC this summer.
