Getting to know Scott Gomez
MONTREAL – Before even suiting up for a game with the Canadiens, Scott Gomez’s fans are well aware of the kind of speed and vision the Habs’ new center is bringing to the lineup. His on-ice exploits may speak for themselves, but what’s he like away from the rink? We put the Anchorage, AK native on the hot seat to get to know him a little better.

Who’s tougher: John Tortorella, your former coach in New York, or Vladimir Bure, Pavel and Valeri’s dad and your personal strength and conditioning coach in New Jersey?

They’re definitely both pretty tough, but since Vladimir grew up in communist Russia, I’ll go with him.

Is Mystery, Alaska the best hockey film of all time?
No, absolutely not! It’s definitely Slap Shot.

What was your first car?
It was an old Toyota truck. Terrible – a real clunker; I think my dad must have gotten it for free.

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you choose?
Gordon Ramsay, the chef from Hell’s Kitchen

If you could be in any band, past or present, who would you want to rock out with?
No question, the Rolling Stones.

If you had to pick an actor to play you in a movie, who would you pick?
Jack Nicholson. You’ve got to pick the best, right?

What was your first job?
I was a hockey ref. It’s the only job I could have had, really.

Who’s your favorite Seinfeld character?
George. He’s the only guy who could come up with those scams and actually pull them off.

If you weren’t a hockey player, what would you be doing?
I guess I’d probably be a Phys. Ed teacher.
