On the campaign trail: the finale
MONTREAL – It all comes down to this. After 51 days of shaking hands, signing autographs and holding babies, the 2009 All-Star Game candidates will find out what Jan. 24 and 25 hold for them.

Come 8:59:59 pm tonight, the polls – which opened back on Nov. 12 – will finally close.  From Montreal to Anaheim, through Pittsburgh and Chicago, fans stuffed the ballot boxes like never before, pushing 11 players well above the million-vote mark and eclipsing Jaromir Jagr’s previous record set back in 2000.

Cabinet positions are all but confirmed for Eastern Conference forwards, with Alex Kovalev expected to be sworn in alongside Penguins stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.

On the back end and in goal, however, the race is still on.

While Andrei Markov will most likely be on the blue line for a second consecutive year when the puck drops, there’s a fight to the finish when it comes to his partner; Mike Komisarek and Pittsburgh’s Sergei Gonchar have been flip-flopping for the second spot over the last several days.

It’s been a similar scenario between the pipes, where Carey Price and Marc-Andre Fleury are enjoying a lengthy game of leapfrog to be the first to face the West, and look to be doing so right until the very end.

Their fates rest in your hands, Habs fans.  Click here to vote online or simply text Habs to 81812 to send your Canadiens to the All-Star Game.
