Price earns NHL's Third Star of the week
The 20-year-old went 3-0-0 in his three starts last week to propel the Canadiens into a tie with the Ottawa Senators for first in the Northeast Division and Eastern Conference. Price stopped 103 of 107 shots for a miniscule 1.32 goals-against average and a .963 save percentage during that stretch. His 12 wins and 24 appearances are tops in the NHL among rookie goaltenders.
The Canadiens’ first pick, fifth overall, in the 2005 Draft kicked off his stellar week with a 35 saves in a 2-1 win over the Florida Panthers. On Saturday, Price earned his first NHL shutout with a 1-0 triumph in the first matchup of a home-and-home with the Philadelphia Flyers. On Sunday, Price was back between the pipes again, turning aside 34 shots by the Flyers as the Canadiens secured a 5-3 victory to sweep the back-to-back and season series.
The Blues’ Manny Legace (3-0-1, 1.49 GAA, .954 SV%) and the Islanders’ Ruslan Fedotenko (four goals, one assist) earned first and second star honors, respectively.
