Habs acquire Brett Engelhardt from Wings

MONTREAL – Canadiens GM Bob Gainey, announced Friday the acquisition of right-winger Brett Engelhardt from the Detroit Red Wings, in return for forward Francis Lemieux. Engelhardt will join the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs.

Engelhardt, 27, played 42 games with the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins this season, collecting 16 points (8 goals, 8 assists) and 33 penalty minutes. The Sheboygan, Wisconsin native spent four seasons with the NCAA Michigan Tech Huskies (2000 to 2004), collecting 105 points (51 goals, 54 assists) in 149 games. Engelhardt totalled 121 points (52 goals, 69 assists) in 238 career games in the AHL.   

Francis Lemieux, 23, amassed six points (6 assists) in 33 games with the Bulldogs this season. Lemieux, who signed with the Canadiens as a free agent on December 8, 2005, has never played a game in the NHL.
