Markov and Huet lead the way
If NHL fans have their way, Andrei Markov, Saku Koivu, Alex Kovalev and Cristobal Huet may be headed to the midseason classic on Jan. 27 at the Phillips Arena in Atlanta.
The NHL’s second-leading scorer among defenseman with six goals to go with 11 assists, Markov already has 115,007 votes in the bank, 30,000 more than his nearest Eastern Conference blue line rival, Zdeno Chara of the Bruins.
Huet is also sitting pretty with a conference-leading 64,351 votes ahead of the likes of the Devils’ Martin Brodeur and Henrik Lundqvist of the Rangers. Armed with his sparkling .928 save percentage, Huet is gunning for his second straight All-Star nod.
With a team-leading 19 points, Koivu also has a shot of packing his bags his bags for Atlanta come January. The Habs captain sits eighth among forwards in the East with 46,554 votes.
Despite not being included on the league’s official ballot, Kovalev is still making waves on the All-Star front. The Habs' top sniper with 10 goals on the year so far, Kovalev has still racked up 23,922 votes to rank 15th among eastern conference forwards.
