Kovalev back on the ice

Alex Kovalev took part in a few on-ice exercises with his teammates during an optional skate Wednesday at the Bell Centre.

MONTREAL - After missing Tuesday night's contest against the Islanders, Alex Kovalev returned to practice Wednesday morning at the Bell Centre.

"I'm feeling a little better but still a little shaky," said Kovalev, who has been dealing with a bout of vertigo since Monday morning.  "I definitely wouldn't wish this experience on anyone.  I've heard some guys say that some players were forced to retire because of it.  Hopefully that doesn't happen to me.

"I woke up Monday at 4 a.m. and it was like I was standing on my head," explained Kovalev.  "I felt perfectly fine on Sunday."

The veteran winger wasn't quite sure what led to the illness.

"I went on the Internet yesterday to try and find out what the causes are," said Kovalev.  "I want to make sure it doesn't happen again.  There's no medicine that you can take for it but there are certain exercises you can do with your head."

In 63 games so far this season, the 34-year-old forward has notched 14 goals and 28 assists.  Saturday night in St. Louis, he tallied the game-winner in the Canadiens' 4-3 win over the Blues.
