Canadiens' 25th Annual Blood Drive
MONTREAL -- Keeping with tradition, Canadiens players, coaching staff and ambassadors will take part in the Canadiens' 25th Annual Blood Drive on Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at the "Salle des pas perdus" in the Windsor Train Station. As it has been in past years, donors are expected for this special day to help Héma-Québec collect some 600 units of blood. From 8 a.m. until 7 p.m., different players and Montreal Canadiens Alumni will be there to thank the donors for their generosity.
The Canadiens' Blood Drive was initiated by Jean Béliveau and Claude Mouton in 1981. Since 1998, the Montreal Canadiens organize their drive in collaboration with Héma-Québec, the supplier of blood in Québec. According to Hema-Québec, the Canadiens' Blood Drive is very important since the expected number of donors represent two thirds of the daily blood supply in Québec. It should be known that to meet Quebecers' needs Héma-Québec must collect a minimum of 1,000 donations per day.
Héma-Québec was created in September 1998 to efficiently provide adequate quantities of safe, optimal blood components, substitutes, human tissues and cord blood to meet the needs of all Quebecers; and provide and develop expertise along with specialized and innovative services and products in the fields of transfusion medicine and human tissue transplantation
