Souray and Huet ready to shine in Dallas
Cristobal Huet and Sheldon Souray will hit the ice tonight in the SuperSkills competition.
DALLAS - The main events surrounding the 2007 NHL All-Star Game get underway Tuesday night with the NHL YoungStars Game. Sheldon Souray and Cristobal Huet will then show off their all-star talents in the SuperSkills competition.
Souray, who is making his second All-Star appearance, was voted in as a starter for the first time in his career. That nod made him the third Canadiens player to earn the honor, following in the footsteps of Patrick Roy and Mats Naslund.
The 30-year-old defenseman raised the bar in his first All-Star Game three years ago. During the hardest shot competition in Minnesota in 2004, Souray, who currently leads all blueliners with 16 goals so far this season, wowed the crowd with his rocket shot clocked at 102.2 miles per hour in a heated battle with Adrian Aucoin. The charismatic defenseman fell just short in the tiebreaker and was edged for the title by the former Islanders blueliner.
Rarely an event to remember for the goaltenders, Cristobal Huet will be thrown to the lions in his All-Star debut, as he gets ready to face the likes of Joe Sakic, Teemu Selanne, Joe Thornton and Co. He'll also have the daunting task of holding off the best of the West in the shootout competition.
Huet and Souray will also be looking to snap the Western Conference's dominance, which has won the last four East vs.West matchups. The last Eastern Conference victory came in 1994.
