Bring on the Leafs!
Canadiens to battle Maple Leafs in rookie tournament final

In three round robin games, Sergei Kostitsyn has been red-hot with two goals and six assists.

TORONTO - With a resounding win over York University Monday night, the Canadiens advanced to the final of the 2006 Rookie Tournament, setting up a showdown with the Maple Leafs on Tuesday afternoon.

The Canadiens will have payback on their minds when they hit the ice at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto, with the Habs' prospects having suffered a 6-5 overtime loss to Toronto to open the tournament on Friday.

Montreal went 2-1, including a 5-1 win over the Panthers on Sunday and a lopsided 15-1 victory over the York Lions Monday night. The Leafs come in a perfect 3-0, having downed Florida 5-3 and defeated York 7-0.

After an unfortunate start to the tourney which saw him leave the opening game against the Leafs due to injury and then sit out the game against Florida, defenseman Mathieu Carle made up for lost time by feasting on York with a seven-point night. Drafted in the third round, 53rd overall this summer, the Acadie-Bathurst blueliner scored a pair of goals and added five assists to pace the Canadiens' offensive explosion against the Lions.

The victory was also a possible measure of revenge for coach Kirk Muller who may have had a score to settle of his own with York University. Muller, who spent the 2005-06 behind the bench of the Queen's University Golden Gaels, saw his squad drop a 2-1 decision to the Lions in their only meeting last season.

The Habs and Leafs will get down to business Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 pm, and Canadiens fans can tune in for the radio broadcast with Derek Wills and Al Craig of the Hamilton Bulldogs doing the play-by-play. Click here to catch all of the action.
