MONTREAL - The Canadiens' annual golf tournament on Sept. 5 was the first sign that the 2006-07 season is fast-approaching as players, coaches and management got the chance to catch up at the scenic Laval-sur-le-Lac Golf Club.
Thanks to the generosity of the over 300 golfers on hand, a grand total of $315,188 was raised for the Montreal Canadiens Children's Foundation, shattering the previous benchmark of $311,332 from last year's tournament.
The event was capped off with an auction, which was once again a resounding success. One item which especially stood out from the rest came courtesy of Cristobal Huet, who donated all of his equipment (glove, blocker and pads) to the Foundation at the end of last season. For the sum of $7,000, the lucky winner of this prize also walked away with a private training season with both Huet and Roland Melanson.
The auction's highest bid of $34,000 went to an item donated by George Gillett, who offered a ski vacation in Vail, Colorado aboard a private jet.
