Habs lend hand for great cause
Steve Begin and his wife Amlie were the spokespeople for this year's blood drive.
MONTREAL - The 24th annual Canadiens blood drive had the Bell Centre buzzing on Tuesday as the Canadiens and Hema-Quebec once again teamed up for a great cause.
For the fans, it was a chance to make a difference and meet some of their favorite Canadiens players at the same time. Early afternoon proved to be a popular time for donors, who got autographs and took pictures with Mike Ribeiro and Mike Komisarek, among others. Neither were surprised by the generosity of the fans.
"There's always a great turnout. I think there's even more this year. A lot of people come and give blood and it's definitely appreciated," said Ribeiro.
"The turnout isn't surprising; it's a great cause," added Komisarek. "It's good to see that people donate their time and it's great that we as players can contribute in our own way."
As of 6:00 pm, nearly 500 people had taken the time to donate.
New Hab Aaron Downey spent plenty of time working the crowd, clearly enjoying every minute of it.
"I really like giving back to the community," he said. "That's what it's all about."
