MONTREAL - Canadiens GM Bob Gainey announced Friday the signing of forward Jan Bulis to a one-year contract. As per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
In 2004-05 Bulis, 27, played for Pardubice, his hometown club in the Czech Republic. He ranked third in the league in scoring with 49 points (24 goals, 25 assists) and 113 penalty minutes in 45 games. He registered four goals and seven points in eight playoff games, leading his club to the league's playoff championship.
The 6-foot-1, 208-pound Bulis registered 30 points in 72 games with the Canadiens in 2003-04. He was the recipient of the Jacques Beauchamp-Molson Trophy in 2002-03. Bulis was acquired by the Canadiens from the Washington Capitals on March 13, 2000 with Richard Zednik and a first-round pick in 2001 (Alexander Perezhogin), in return for Dainius Zubrus, Trevor Linden and a second-round pick in 2001. He has registered 182 points (64 goals, 118 assists) in 400 career regular-season games to date.
