MONTREAL (May 29, 2014) – The third edition of the Hockey de rue "Together for the Kids" took place on Sunday, May 25 to benefit the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation and the YM-YWHA. Thanks to the generosity of all partners who have joined forces, $244,000 has been raised through this event. Under a shiny and burning sun, the adult and youth ball-hockey teams competed for the champion title in their respective divisions. Several Canadiens Alumni including Patrice Brisebois, Chris Nilan, Gilbert Delorme and Mathieu Dandenault were also on hand to take part in a friendly legends game.
This year, the Street Hockey Tournament was able to count on the support of the National Bank as the main sponsor of the event. "Since its inception, the Bank has always contributed to the vitality of the communities where it operates. We make youth developing a priority through our One for Youth program. It was therefore natural for us to partner with the Montreal Canadiens Children's Foundation and YM-YWHA to allow the holding of this tournament so that youth in Greater Montreal and elsewhere in Quebec, can enjoy the virtues of sporting group activity, "said Diane Giard, senior vice-president, executive officer, Personal and Commercial Banking at National Bank.
"It's inspiring to see so many people from different backgrounds mobilize for children. United by sport and by their desire to help, partners and participants of this tournament have all played an important role. Through their presence and support, they enable us to contribute to the implementation of healthy and active lifestyle programs among disadvantaged youth," said Pierre Boivin, Chairman of the Board of the Montreal Canadiens Children's Foundation.
"It was a super third year for Hockey de rue with over 300 participants playing some great street hockey to benefit kids in our communities throughout the province of Quebec with $244,000 raised. The Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation and the YM-YWHA have formed a partnership to make this unique event the premiere street hockey tournament in the Montreal area. We look forward to next year’s event May 2015," said Steve Stotland, Chair of the organizing committee of Hockey de rue.
About the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation
The Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation provides help and support to children in need. Since its inception in August 2000, the Foundation has donated upwards of $16 million to more than 500 charitable endeavors from across the province of Quebec who work for the well-being of underprivileged children. The Foundation fulfills its mandate in two ways: first, through a unique flagship project – the BLEU BLANC BOUGE program - which consists of building community refrigerated and multisport rinks, secondly by providing financial support to organizations whose projects and programs allow children to adopt healthy lifestyles by being more active and eating better.
