MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens and the NHL Thursday released the schedule for the 2013-14 regular season. The Canadiens will open the season at the Bell Centre, hosting the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday, October 1.
The Canadiens’ regular season will close on Saturday, April 12 with a game against the New York Rangers at the Bell Centre, wrapping up an 82-game schedule over a span of 194 days. There will be an 18-day break from February 8 to 26, 2014 with the presentation of the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
The Canadiens will play two matinee games at home during the traditional Super Bowl Weekend on Saturday, February 1 versus the Tampa Bay Lightning (1 p.m.) and Sunday, February 2 against the Winnipeg Jets (1 p.m.).
With the new NHL realignment effective for the 2013-14 season, the Canadiens will play 30 games versus their seven division opponents (Boston, Buffalo, Detroit, Florida, Ottawa, Tampa Bay and Toronto), and three games against each of the other eight non-division teams from the Eastern Conference (24 games). The remaining 28 games will be played versus Western Conference clubs, with one home game and one away game against each of the 14 teams.
The Canadiens will play seven (7) preseason games between September 15-26, including five (5) games at the Bell Centre, as the team will host Buffalo (September 15), Boston (September 16), Carolina (September 21), New Jersey (September 23) and Ottawa (September 26). Two preseason games will also be played on the road: at Colisée Pepsi in Quebec City against Carolina (September 20) and in Ottawa (September 25).
Canadiens home games will be played at least once on each day of the week, except for Friday. Saturday remains the busiest day on the schedule with 25 games, including 15 contests at the Bell Centre.
