MONTREAL – While the 2012-13 campaign may have been relatively short, there was certainly no shortage of spectacular plays to keep fans on the edge of their seats.
Like the last six seasons, you are once again invited to vote for the Play of the Year. Whether it’s a bone-crunching body check, a goal that left you speechless or a save that defied the laws of physics, it’s up to you, the fans, to select your favorite.
This year, you’ve got plenty of highlights to choose from. A total of 17 players are featured amongst the 32 plays that we selected as those that astounded us during the 2012-13 season. With five nominations, Calder Trophy candidate Brendan Gallagher is the Canadiens player featured the most number of times in the Play of the Year pool. The fact that the rookie sensation finished the season tied atop the goal-scoring lead for the Habs with 15 markers during his freshman campaign provided us with multiple highlights to choose from. Just behind Gallagher, with three nominations each, are another pair of young and offensively gifted forwards in Lars Eller and Alex Galchenyuk. Both Eller and Galchenyuk exceeded expectations this past season, proving that they had outstanding hands and creativity, mesmerizing us on more than one occasion during the season. Smooth-skating defenseman P.K. Subban also has three nominations as well.
While goals are always up for Play of the Year honours, Carey Price and Peter Budaj’s exploits are also represented in the competition, as are moments of raw physicality, including hits from Ryan White and Alexei Emelin.
Now, it’s up to you to choose! You are invited to vote each day for your favorite. And, don’t forget that you can vote more than once. So, if you only caught glimpses of the 2012-13 season – which would be rather surprising – or if you just want to relive the nominated plays, don’t hesitate to check out the Play of the Year competition board by clicking here.
