Development Camp - Day 6
BROSSARD – After spending six days in Montreal, Canadiens prospects and invitees capped their Development Camp experience on Friday with one final intra-squad game before a large crowd at the Bell Sports Complex.
The tilt ended with Team A pulling off a convincing 8-2 win. Charles Hudon, Patrick Holland and Josiah Didier each scored twice, while Christian Thomas and Jack Nevins also lit the lamp. Sven Andrighetto and invitee Michael Szmatula scored the two goals for Team B. Team A fired 39 shots on goal, while Team B amassed 28 shots.
Team A’s netminders didn’t give Team B much of a chance on Friday as Zachary Fucale surrendered just one goal on 11 shots, while C.J. Motte only allowed one goal on nine shots. Hayden Hawkey gave up five goals on 17 shots in goal for Team B, while Jordan Papirny surrendered three goals on 20 shots.
Before leaving town, players met the media to discuss their Development Camp experience, with many of them noting that they still have plenty of work to do in order to crack the Canadiens’ roster.
“Everybody needs to get stronger, and I think that’s the key thing in my case,” affirmed Patrick Holland, who is currently playing with the Hamilton Bulldogs. “Consistency is something that I need to work on, too, and I’ll pay particular attention to that this year. I like to think that I have a lot of the skills, the vision and the hockey IQ out there, so it’s a matter of putting it together with intensity and consistency.”
Jacob De La Rose also spoke frankly about his experience.
“I had a good week here,” concluded De La Rose. “We had a lot of good players in town and we had good training sessions. I heard about the passion of fans in Montreal, so I expected to see many of them out there. It was great playing here.”
The prospects and invitees now return to their offseason activities while awaiting Rookie Camp in September, and, for some of them, the opportunity to participate in the Canadiens’ main training camp ahead of the 2014-15 campaign.
